Interests
Mr. Alston has been in the
field of substance abuse for the past thirteen years and has
been an employee at FRI for approximately five years. Mr.
Alston began working at FRI on a project with Dr. Katz as an
Additions Counselor facilitating an Intensive Outpatient group
and individual sessions at Harambee Treatment Center in West
Baltimore. Mr. Alston also worked on the Soaring program with
Dr. Taxman as an Additions Counselor. Mr. Alston has a passion
for helping substance abuse patients restore their lives to some
degree of sanity. Currently, Mr. Alston is working on a project
with Dr.
Mitchell on a NIDA-funded study comparing intensive outpatient
v. standard outpatient counseling when combined with
buprenorphine for heroin-dependent African Americans.
Mr. Alston appreciates the research conducted at FRI because it
has proven to be helpful in the lives of many addicts.
