Research Interests
Diana Caldwell’s research interests focus on
innovative data collection strategies that promise to improve
the reliability and validity of survey methodology. Such
strategies have the potential for adding to the body of
knowledge necessary for articulating coherent public
policy—particularly with regard to substance use and its
collateral legal and medical issues. In this regard, she is a
PhD candidate in Public Policy at the University of Maryland
Baltimore County and conducting research that examines
audio-computer assisted self-interviewing (ACASI) and its impact
on reporting of HIV knowledge and risky health behaviors. Her
interests also include human services policy, having spent more
than 18 years working with Native Americans in Robeson County,
North Carolina. Currently, she is Project Director of a
community service research and evaluation project that targets
Native Americans living in Baltimore and at risk for substance
abuse, HIV, and hepatitis.
