Research Interests

Ms. Gugsa, a Baltimore native, has worked in the field of Behavioral Neuroscience for four years. During her undergraduate training, she studied how the orbitofrontal cortex and basolateral amygdala regions mediated goal directed behavior in rats and explored the basis of addiction that influenced those regions. At FRI, Ms. Gugsa will be conducting research under Dr. Mitchell on a NIDA-funded study comparing intensive outpatient v. standard outpatient counseling when combined with buprenorphine for heroin-dependent African Americans.
