Research Interests

Ms. Rothenberg joins FRI from New York City where she worked in the field of substance abuse research for over two years. In New York, Ms. Rothenberg was the primary research coordinator on two pharmacologic treatment trials for current substance abusers. She also conducted research investigating changes in cigarette smoking patterns among cocaine users participating in a pharmacologic trial. The objective of her research was to determine whether individuals who reduced cocaine intake would substitute one drug for another (i.e., nicotine). Her findings indicated that cocaine dependent individuals who decrease cocaine use do not increase cigarette intake, but in fact reduce overall cigarette use. She presented these findings at the annual meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) in June 2009.

At FRI, Lindsay will be conducting research under Dr. Mitchell on a NIDA-funded study comparing intensive outpatient v. standard outpatient counseling when combined with buprenorphine for heroin-dependent African Americans. She looks forward to learning more about Baltimore and conducting research at FRI.
